Purposes:
The Partnership Grant is awarded to the Regional TF to engage in building a sustained relationship between colleges and universities that participate in the TF and local schools that are described as high need, other schools that display effective practices, and regional resource and professional development providers. The partnership will work with the SPDG identified schools and districts. The grant will promote:
developing partnerships between colleges and universities that participate in the TF and SPDG identified high need schools so that the high need schools will recognize TF members as accessible resources;
engaging teacher preparation institutions as partners in the regional SPDG planning, gaining their recognition as resources in collaboration with other regional technical assistance and professional development networks; and
involving preservice teachers in SPDG identified high need schools as they implement improvement strategies, so these preservice teachers can witness successful school improvement as well as supporting school improvement through their own efforts in implementing activities in the improvement plans (as appropriate).
Actions to Be Taken
In general, the Regional TF will collaborate with SPDG Regional Field Facilitators (when identified), and SEQA and field technical assistance and professional development networks in identifying and validating effective practice schools, and will support causal analysis, planning, implementation and evaluation of efforts in targeted high need districts and schools as appropriate.
Given that the current school year (2006-2007) is half-over, and given that the SPDG project will yet be several months before specific schools will be identified as participants in the project, the balance of this year will be dedicated to the following actions:
The Regional TF will collaborate with the SPDG project through the SPDG Regional Field Facilitators (when identified) and network personnel to explore partnership prospects with potentially identified high need schools and districts, assuring that plans fit with the efforts of the SPDG.
To achieve this collaboration, Regional TF members will build consortia among the colleges and universities, developing alignments and alliances that build on their expertise and capacity to understand and communicate about most the current research in instructional practices for inclusive education, as well as their knowledge of teacher development and mentoring.
Working with the SPDG Regional Field Facilitators (when identified) and network personnel, the Regional TF members will develop an inventory of local sites where effective practices can be observed and studied and drawn upon as resources for local high-need schools and districts.
The Regional TF will identify ways preservice teachers can eventually be involved actively and productively in the SPDG identified high need schools.
The partnerships that will eventually be formed will be between a consortium of colleges and one or more high need schools. They will address the particular challenges the school faces, engaging teachers and administrators, teacher educators and preservice teachers, professional development and technical assistance providers, and community agencies, as appropriate.
